A student from the University’s National Centre for Food Manufacturing at Holbeach will be meeting HRH, The Princess Royal at a special awards ceremony in London.

Wayne Clark, from Sleaford, was chosen to receive an award for Best Student Driving Food Manufacturing Excellence following his efforts in improving performance at DP Packaging in Pinchbeck, near Spalding.
Hosted by the Institute of Meat (IoM) and the Meat Training Council (MTC), the awards recognise the achievements of the industry’s best.
Wayne, who has recently been promoted to Quality Assurance Manager, has been studying at the University of Lincoln’s National Centre for Food Manufacturing (NCFM) at Holbeach since August 2009.
Since then he has completed an Apprenticeship in Food and Drink Manufacturing Operations and an Advanced Apprenticeship in Food Manufacture. He is now working towards a Level 4 Certificate for Proficiency in Food Manufacturing Excellence.
Sharon Green, Head of Skills and Employer Engagement at NCFM, nominated Wayne for the annual awards.
She said: “Wayne has truly seen the benefit of life-long learning and how training and development can lead to promotions in the workplace. His employer has always supported Wayne in releasing him to attend days at the Holbeach campus enabling him to develop his knowledge and skills. The Level 4 Certificate has been designed to support Wayne in the coming weeks and months when quality systems will need to be evaluated and a more lean culture will be implemented. The qualification has been chosen for its flexibility using consultants to support key projects in the workplace that will save time and money.”
Wayne will attend the prize giving reception on Tuesday 26th February at Butchers’ Hall in London.
He said: “It has been fairly challenging to undertake study while also working full-time but both the University of Lincoln and my employers have been really supportive. One of the assumptions with factory work is that it is boring, but that isn’t the case. I have carved out a great career for myself.”
Princess Anne, Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Butchers, will present more than 15 awards to individuals, companies and training establishments that have shown particular excellence within the industry during 2012.
