The University of Lincoln’s National Centre for Food Manufacturing (NCFM) has been highlighted for good practice for its work to encourage sustainable growth in a national report about food security.

The report, Food Leading 4.0: growing university-business collaboration for the UK’s food economy, has been written by the National Centre for Universities and Business, and aims to examine potential problems to food supply and security, and create solutions.

The report showcased the SUSTAIN project, a partnership between the NCFM and Lincolnshire County Council that works with Lincolnshire’s small and medium-sized food and engineering businesses.
A unique aspect of the project has been support from larger companies, many of which have already applied resource efficiency techniques to their businesses.
These exemplars share their experiences with smaller companies at regular networking meetings organised by the NCFM. In addition, SUSTAIN has helped SMEs which have never had contact with knowledge centres in the past to use NFCM for business advice, environmental audits, access to equipment and assistance in accessing funds.
