The University of Lincoln NCFM has recently been running a range of food packaging related trials.  Work with food manufacturers and packaging suppliers has covered a wide range of project areas including review of shelf life and quality benefits linked to modified atmosphere packaging where the results have significantly benefitted business operational costs.

Food packing machinery within the NCFM has been utilised by packaging suppliers to assess how well their prototype packaging would run through fully operational food lines, leading to structure and formulation improvements which will ensure that the proposed pack meets all market demands by the time of launch.  

A current trial area is the assessment of pack seal integrity, providing businesses with a valuable insight into the effectiveness of their current packing controls and highlighting areas for further improvement.
