The Holbeach Campus was privileged to host a delegation of 50 visitors from 11 different countries across the world, as they visited the National Centre for Food Manufacturing on Wednesday 5 October.

The visit had been organised by Festo, a partner of the NCFM at Holbeach Campus. Festo Training and Consulting supports improved productivity through the development of key competences, and Festo has supported the Mechatronics vocational competitions for 20 years as a Global Partner of WorldSkills. In London in 2011, Festo was a partner for the Mechatronics, Mobile Robotics and Polymechanics competitions, to promote the education of up-and-coming talent.

 

 

WorldSkills London 2011 is the world’s largest, international skills competition and careers event with people from 51 countries/regions competing to be the best of the best in their chosen skill. The event sees the most talented apprentices from around the world regularly compete for the title of World Skills Champion. Every two years, the best apprentices from all over the world demonstrate their abilities, focusing on technical knowledge and team spirit.

Visitors came from Canada, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Germany, Mexico, China, India, Russia, Switzerland and Indonesia. Delegates were from academia, and included lecturers, professors, principals, deans, heads of departments of universities, as well as government and industry, and spent a very interesting morning sharing knowledge and making contacts, while touring the factory facilities, and listening to presentations by Professor Ieuan Owen, Sharon Green – Head of Skills and Employer Engagement at Holbeach, and Principal Lecturer Mike Dudbridge.
