Thanks to funding through the SUSTAIN Lincolnshire Programme, the University of Lincoln is offering a range of free short courses for Lincolnshire-based small businesses involved directly with food or in related industries.

The courses run during March 2012 and will equip participants with an understanding of the benefits of resource efficiency, which can lead to increased profitability and environmental savings.

Two levels of course are available – a half day session, and a one-day CIEH (Chartered Institute of Environmental Health) accredited course, allowing companies to develop knowledge relevant to their individual needs. Courses are free to Lincolnshire businesses with 250 employees or less and will be delivered in Lincoln or Holbeach, with an option for distance learning coming soon.

The introductory level half day resource efficiency awareness seminar, Sustainable Practice in Food Operations Delivery, awards participants with a QCF unit in Understanding how to contribute to sustainable practice in food operations. This training provides an introduction to sustainable practice, and a comprehensive overview of resource efficiency, together with practical tips on waste reduction.

Dates:

15th March, 9am – 2pm at Holbeach Campus, South Lincolnshire

16th March, 9am – 2pm at Riseholme Campus, Lincoln

The CIEH level 2 one-day course in Environmental Principles and Practice has been designed for any staff whose activities could have a significant impact on the environment. Many organisations have identified that tackling environmental issues can bring benefits to their business including reduced waste and utility costs, reduced liabilities and access to new markets and investors, and this course will provide businesses with the tools to address their own environmental performance. Those completing the one-day course will be accredited with the CIEH Level 2 Environmental Principles and Practice, following a multiple-choice, 30 question exam paper.

Dates:

8th March at Holbeach Campus, South Lincolnshire

22nd March at Riseholme Campus, Lincoln

Places are limited so if you are a small or medium enterprise with up to 250 employees, based in Lincolnshire and operating in the food and associated industries (not agriculture) contact Debi Melbourne on 01406 493000 or dmelbourne@lincoln.ac.uk for more details or to sign up.
